WATCH: Parents Outraged By 'Totally Sexist' Shoe Commercial

Skechers has released a new line of wedge sneakers for teen girls. It is called Daddy'$ Money. It has a money sign ($) instead of an "S." The tagline is "Get spoiled with Daddy's money, ultra cool shoes that will put you in the spotlight..." And yes, all of the above is true.

When a commercial for Daddy'$ Money aired on The Hub -- a channel geared toward kids -- Julianna W. Miner, a mom of three who blogs at RantsFromMommyland.com, was outraged. "It's so bad that if it were a Saturday Night Live sketch -- it would be hilarious. But it's not. It's real. And I had to watch it all the way through twice before it started to sink in that people were seriously trying to sell this garbage to my daughter," she wrote.

Here's the spot:

Miner first takes issue with the campaign's underlying message that girls and women don't have to work for what they want. "Instead, put on tiny shorts and a belly shirt and go ask 'Daddy' for some money," she wrote.

Joslyn Gray at Babble is equally perplexed and wonders whether "Daddy" is even referencing a girl's father, or if "Daddy" is short for Sugar Daddy. If her daughters tried to "sway" their father with the clothes used in the commercial, she writes, "I'm pretty sure he'd deliver a long lecture on the value of money, and then send them upstairs to put on pants."

Both Miner and Gray are appalled by the names of the each of the shoe styles as well -- "Gimme Kisses" (lips), "Gimme Wicked" (leopard-print), "Gimme Starry Skies" (stars) and just plain "Gimme" (flowers, of course). "To dress in tight clothes and go to their daddy with their hands out and say 'gimme,'" is not a lesson Miner wants to teach her kids.

Erica Souter, editor of Cafe Mom's "The Stir," agreed with Miner and Gray's reactions calling the campaign "totally sexist" today on Good Morning America.

Putting the name and its' connotations aside, the commercial's emphasis on the shoes' hidden heel might also be sending a negative message to girls. "Are we teaching them that they need to be taller? So that what? They appear to be thinner? Because whatever their size or height or body type, it's wrong," Miner writes.

In response to the unanimous outrage, Skechers told ABC News that, "the daddy's money name and the collection's advertising are designed to be lighthearted, and we regret that some people have been offended by the name."

At least the shoes aren't telling girls not to do their homework? Reported by Huffington Post 2 days ago.

PEOPLE in Notts can influence police stop and search powers.

Notts Police are publishing a draft policy document which the public can comment on.

The document can be viewed online at www.nottinghamshire.police.uk

A police spokesman said: "The use of stop and search powers is a critical element of policing to help reduce crime, but it can also impact upon our relationship with the communities we serve.

"While most people accept that the force has to use stop and search powers, the force recognises it is important they are used lawfully, proportionately and people are treated with respect.

"So by asking for feedback about the policy it will help us to ensure members of the public understand why stop and search powers are used, how they should be used by officers, and what people can expect to happen if they are stopped and searched."

QU Women Squeak By St. Lawrence 3-2 Patch Hamden, CT --

Redemption tasted oh-so-sweet for the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team as junior Amanda Colin lit the lamp over eight minutes into the third overtime period to send the No. 4 seeded Bobcats past the No. 5 Saints, 3-2, and force a deciding Game Three of their ECAC Hockey Tournament Quarterfinals series on Sunday.

Colin's goal was incredibly dynamic as she toe-dragged past one defender and then beat St. Lawrence goalie Carmen MacDonald five-hole for the game-winner. Quinnipiac will now face-off against the Saints on Sunday at 2 p.m. from High Point Solutions Arena with the winner advancing to the ECAC Hockey Semifinals.

Colin's goal was her second of the night as the junior forward finished with her second career multi-goal game and the first since Nov. 19, 2010 against Colgate. Senior Kristen Eklund also found herself in the scoring column for her first goal of the season and first in 54 games as she last scored on Oct. 29, 2011 against Union. Quinnipiac's senior goalie Victoria Vigilanti flashed the leather all evening as she finished with 57 saves, tying a career-high, on 59 shots to pick up her 71st career victory.

Less than 24 hours after falling in overtime, 1-0, to St. Lawrence in Game One, the Bobcats exacted a little payback in Game Two  but it certainly wasn't easy. The Bobcats held a 2-0 lead for the majority of the game until the final minute of regulation where the Saints pumped in two last-second goals with an extra skater on ice within the final 32 seconds of play.

The Bobcats jumped out in front with Eklund's goal at 10:57 in the first period. Quinnipiac began the play with a faceoff win in their own end. The puck was held up along the boards as freshman Nicole Brown dumped down to Eklund below the right faceoff dot. She fatuously threw the puck towards MacDonald hoping for a rebound opportunity for Brown but the puck happened to deflected off the shoulder of the Saint goalie and into the back of the net for the goal. It was the first tally for the Bobcats in over 80 minutes played against the Saints up to that point this weekend.

Quinnipiac later tightened their stranglehold on this game as Colin pumped in her first goal of the game at 15:52 in the second period. The play began with a Saint turnover in their defensive end. The Bobcats cycled the puck along the boards as junior Erica Uden Johansson push it to Colin who back passed to junior Shelby Wignall at the blue line. She fired a slap shot that was loose in front and eventually poked home by Colin at the doorstep to give the Bobcats a commanding 2-0 lead. Wignall's assist was her third of the season while Uden Johansson recorded her 14^th helper.

With both sides executing defensively, the two-goal Bobcat lead seemed insurmountable until the final minute of regulation. The first goal came at 19:28 as the Saints' Rylee Smith scored to close the gap to 2-1. St. Lawrence won the faceoff in the Bobcats' defensive end and Kelly Sabatine twirled around several defenders before centering in front of the crease. Her pass somehow made it to Rylee Smith's stick, avoiding a deflection, and was one-timed past Vigilanti for the goal.

Still with 32 seconds remaining and the Bobcats still up 2-1, the result seemed to be in hand before the Saints struck again. With the puck scrambling around in the Bobcats' defensive end, St. Lawrence's Mel Desrochers threw the puck in front which Smith tipped up and over the sprawled Vigilanti to light the lamp with an incredible 0.2 seconds showing on the scoreboard.

Both teams were locked in a battle throughout the first two overtime periods as the shots heavily favored the Bobcats, 15-4, in the first extra frame but MacDonald was up to the task throughout the evening with a career-high 57 saves for the Saint goalie.

Vigilanti was busy throughout the second extra period as she thwarted several near-goals from St. Lawrence as the Saints carried a 14-9 shots advantage throughout the frame.

The crowd sensed a goal was close as the play was up-and-down with several close opportunities were denied by both goalies but the home crowd rose to their feet after Colin's amazing one-on-one play. Wignall made a strong defensive stand as she rode a Saint forward to the boards with the puck to limit the two-on-one rush for St. Lawrence. The Saints still possessed behind Vigilanti but the centering pass was deflected out wide to Colin who poked the puck past the lunging defender to create a one-on-one breakaway. Colin carried the puck on her forehand side and then toe-dragged right past the last Saint defender to the middle of the crease. She looked down, faked a forehand, and slid over with the backhand game-winner to lift Quinnipiac to the victory.

Several side-notes as the Saints played in the longest game in program history tonight while this was the second-longest in Quinnipiac history behind the five overtime battle against Rensselaer on Feb. 28, 2010. The Bobcats attempted 108 total shots while St. Lawrence totaled 97. Both sides played incredibly clean hockey as only four penalties were called throughout the 100-plus minute game.

Boston Globe: Bedford 'Worth the Trip' Patch Bedford-Katonah, NY --

Bedford residents know their bucolic town is full of worthwhile historical, recreational and cultural activities—now Boston residents know it, too.

The Boston Globe this week featured Bedford and its three hamlets as a featured weekend travel destination in the paper's Lifestyle section, and noted the "entire town is a popular tourist destination for couples and families, with the occasional celebrity spotting."

The story notes the town's few lodging options, and recommends The Bedford Post Inn and nearby Crabtree's Kittle House Inn and The Holiday Inn as places to stay.

For dining, the Globe's travel writer points to wide-ranging options, from The Wooden Nickel's bacon-egg-and-cheese on a roll to organic fare at Erica's Kitchen, to finer-dining prepared at the The Meetinghouse Food and Spirits.

Bedford's many cultural destinations were touted as places to visit during the day—such as John Jay Homestead and the Katonah Museum—as were specialty shops and boutiques like Kelloggs & Lawrence and Consider the Cook.

The chance to spot the occasional celebrity is also mentioned as a draw—and Bedford has more than a few, from Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds to Martha Stewart and Richard Gere.

Tarsis Resources makes further goal progress with deal to acquire Almaden properties in Mexico and Nevada

Tarsis Resources (CVE:TCC) has met more of its goals set for this year as it has inked a non-binding preliminary deal to acquire a 100 per cent interest in four gold-silver properties in Mexico, and two gold properties in Nevada, from Almaden Minerals (TSE:AMM) (NYSE:AAU).

The Canadian junior mineral explorer said work is underway to consummate the acquisition through a formal agreement.

Under the terms, Tarsis will pay Almaden four million common shares and grant a 2% net smelter returns royalty on any production from the projects.

Areas of influence in Nevada and Mexico will be outlined, and Almaden will provide Tarsis with its proprietary data and concepts. In exchange for this data, Tarsis will issue 200,000 shares to Almaden for each new property acquired within the area of influence.

Tarsis will also issue a further 800,000 shares to Almaden once it first discloses a mineral resource on any of the new properties.

"We are very pleased to acquire additional properties from Almaden and continue our relationship with them," said president and CEO of Tarsis, Marc Blythe, in a statement.

"We respect their ability to identify high-quality mineralizing systems and we look forward to advancing these properties using the prospect generator model."

Tarsis' prospect generator model means it seeks out prospective exploration projects to acquire, and then vends or options them to partners for development. This model has allowed the junior to raise cash in an otherwise tough market.

“It’s been really tough for junior companies to raise money that don’t have a niche, a management team with particular experience, or a project that is appreciated,” Blythe says.

“We have a strong group of supporters who like the prospect generator model, and for this reason, we haven’t had difficulties to date.”

Indeed, the company has strong backers. Kinross Gold (TSE:K) invested about a year and a half ago, and now has around a 9% stake, while Sprott’s Rick Rule has a more than 10% interest. Almaden Minerals (TSE:AMM) also holds over 10%.

And there is even more proof that Tarsis hasn’t had any trouble raising cash. Last October, it closed a financing for total proceeds of just over $1 million, raising double what it had originally anticipated. Backers in the offering included Sprott, and management, which holds a significant chunk of shares, among others.

Currently, Tarsis has nine properties in the Yukon, Canada, and one in Mexico - the Erica property, which the company last month optioned to Osisko Mining Corp (TSE:OSK), already knocking off its first goal for this year.

The deal gives Osisko the right to earn up to a 75% interest by funding exploration and development of the property, and by making cash payments to Tarsis.

After completing the deal for Erika, the company's second priority this year was adding new properties in Nevada as well as in Mexico, a goal it crossed off with today's announcement.

Tarsis said each of the new properties in Mexico feature epithermal style mineralization and are prospective for gold and silver. Prospecting samples done by Almaden on the Gallo de Oro property returned values of up to 104 grams per tonne (g/t) gold.

Historic artisanal mining is evident with small pits and shafts on the property, the junior noted, but there is no evidence of drilling.

The Nevada properties, meanwhile, are prospective for gold and feature "Carlin-style pathfinder elements" believed to be supportive of this model. Preliminary soil work from the BP property features anomalous Carlin-style pathfinders including gold, thallium, arsenic, antimony and mercury.

Shares of Tarsis were flat at 9.5 cents in Toronto early Monday afternoon. Reported by Proactive Investors 1 day ago.
